7th Annual "TEXAS METAL ARTS - A FESTIVAL AT GRUENE" (www.texasmetalarts.com)

From Red-Hot Steel to Polished Gold, you will find a full range imagination and craftsmanship in metal. Artistic metal works including funky & fine jewelry, decorative art, sculpture, fun garden decorations and functional objects.

Forty Texas Artists, including goldsmiths, tinsmiths, silversmiths, blacksmiths, and sculptors will show their creative work ranging from fine art to folk art. Ongoing demonstrations will reveal intricate skills, techniques, and tricks in metalworking using age old techniques, and space age ideas to transform raw metal into Fine Art, Jewelry, Folk Art, and Sculptures. Metal of all kinds will be cut, hammered, riveted, soldered, welded, painted, polished, and embellished with precious stones and other objects. From sophisticated to practical to radical, it will be a "Red Hot n' Hammered" weekend.

SASCA

Solo II events (also known as autocrosses) are an all forward motion driving skill contest. Each driver is individually timed to the thousandth of a second, over a short, miniature road course clearly defined using traffic cones. Cars compete one at a time, hence the name "Solo", in a class with similar cars.  Solo II emphasizes driver skill and vehicle handling rather than just speed. The corners are tight, and there are lots of them, so the driving is exciting and challenging. Solo II speeds do not exceed those normally encountered in highway driving.  For more information check out SASCA website www.sasca.org.

Virgil T. Blossom Athletic Center (12002 Jones Maltsberger Road) north of the SA Internat'l Airport.
